Meal Me
How to reduce household food waste
Project:    Sustainable design
Year:         2020
Goal
The goal of the project was to find a sustainable solution for an everyday problem. Our group chose to take a closer look at food waste in households.
Process and method
Brainstorming: Conducted a workshop where we familiarized ourselves with various works we could work with. Argued for pros and cons, before concluding on food waste in households.

Background: Introduced us to, among other things, cultural, geographic, economic and political factors of food waste. We investigated the impact it has on the environmental footprint, and in what way psychology influences decisions that are made.
Further in the process, we followed a double diamond design process.
In order to better understand who the target audience was, three personas were created, with three scenarios.
When deciding which features were important to include in the app, we used the MoSCoW method to set up a form.
MealMe is a mobile solution that will make it easier for the household to plan what to buy and how to use ingredients. Alongside contributing to a sustainable footprint, financial and time-saving incentives are emphasized. Insights into users, stakeholders and marketing strategies were examined in connection with the solution.
Refleksjon:
Reflecting on which methods and processes should be used helped us avoid misleading directions and allowed us to use our time efficiently.
This was an interdisciplinary project between industrial design and industrial ecology. We had different skills, and different preferences for which tasks we wanted. By mapping this early, we all became more motivated about the work.
Initially, we wanted the solution to be universal and accessible to everyone. We struggled to define a clear target audience. Furthermore, this made it difficult to prioritize which functions should be included, as there were many different needs within the group. This was solved when we decided to narrow it down to young adults between the ages of 18 and 30.
